The clitoris, everything you need to know!
The clitoris: every woman's best friend. But where is this friend hidden? What is the clitoris for, and how do you stimulate it? Everything you need to know as a woman - and certainly as a man - about this amazing female body part can be found below.
What is the clitoris?
The clitoris - also known as 'tickler' or simply 'clit' - is sometimes described among friends as the female form of a penis. The penis of girls. In babies with an XY chromosome (males), this organ develops into a penis, while in babies with an XX chromosome (females) it evolves into a clitoris.
Some interesting facts about the clitoris:
- The clitoris, like the penis, has a 'foreskin', known as the clitoral hood.
- During periods of great arousal, the clitoris can become stiff and swollen.
- The clitoris in women responds strongly to stimulation and can increase in size.
Did you know that the clitoris contains no less than 8,000 nerve endings? This makes the clitoris twice as sensitive as its male counterpart: the glans. It is good to understand what the clitoris is and how to stimulate it best.
Where is the clitoris located?
The clitoris is considerably larger inside the female body than the (small) visible part that protrudes above the skin. Although we usually only see a centimeter or two of it from the outside, the organ is up to ten centimeters in size inside.
It is important to know that the well-known G-spot is part of the clitoris, which explains why most women experience a lot of pleasure from stimulation of this area located on the inside of the vagina.
The visible part of the clitoris is located at the top of a woman's vagina, approximately between the outer labia at the point where the inner labia meet.
What is the best way to stimulate a clitoris?
Active stimulation of the clitoris plays an important role in increasing women's pleasure during sex. For the majority of women, reaching an orgasm is not possible with vaginal penetration, but it is possible through targeted stimulation of the clitoris and the surrounding sensitive area. This stimulation can be done with the hand, tongue or a sex toy, for example.
About 80 percent of women reach climax solely through stimulation of this "pleasure button," regardless of vaginal penetration.
For a long time, it was thought that the clitoris was only meant to make women come. Yes, the clitoris certainly plays an essential role in this, but it also serves other purposes. Recently, scientists have shown that the clitoris also plays an important role in the reproductive process.
Did you know that clitoral stimulation not only increases vaginal blood circulation and vaginal lubrication, but also regulates vaginal oxygen levels and temperature?
In addition, the clitoris also optimizes the position of the cervix. The clitoris also slows down the movement of sperm cells. All of this contributes to the formation of a healthy environment for a possible pregnancy. Yes, it is true: a woman who enjoys lovemaking through clitoral stimulation increases her chances of pregnancy!
An orgasm through the clitoris
Some women like to make a distinction between a vaginal orgasm (induced by stimulation of the inside of the vagina) and a clitoral orgasm (induced by targeted stimulation of the clitoris).
But actually, a purely 'vaginal orgasm' is not entirely correct. Women experience an orgasm through stimulation of the clitoris organ, whereby the back of this organ, which is about ten centimeters in size, is stimulated on the inside of the body. A vaginal orgasm is therefore also an orgasm that occurs via the clitoris.
So it's important to know that talking about two separate types of orgasms isn't entirely accurate, and that the clitoris plays an important role in each type of orgasm.
An oversensitive clitoris
The clitoris is naturally very sensitive. But did you know that its sensitivity increases just before and immediately after an orgasm? At those times, direct stimulation of the clitoris can sometimes be too intense.
But despite that sensitivity, you may not want to stop completely at that (climax) point. If you suffer from an oversensitive clitoris, you can use your fingers to stimulate the area around the clitoris.
Also, oral sex can often serve as a suitable alternative to not overstimulate the clitoris. But here too, the focus should not only be on the clitoris, but on the entire area around it.
For some women who suffer a lot from hypersensitivity, the clitoris is simply too sensitive for direct touch. A solution can then be to choose a position where the man enters from behind. Also, only indirect stimulation, such as stroking or licking the labia, offers a suitable solution in this case.
